Sanada Yukimura's hiding place at Mt. Kudo in Kii province.
By Chikanobu Toyohara.
After the Battle of Sekigahara, Tokugawa Ieyasu banished Sanada Masayuki (1544-1608) and his son Yukimura (1570-1615), Nobuyuki's younger brother, to Mt. Kudo in Kii Province, far from their home in Shinano Province. When Yukimura's wife came to visit, he was not allowed not see her, so he asked his son to give her his mirror (the scene illustrated). Yukimura would eventually escape Mt. Kudo and join Toyotomi forces at Osaka Castle, where he died fighting against the Tokugawa.
