By Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864).

Living Ghost, 1851.

" A scene from the kabuki play "Genji Moyo Furisode Hinagata" of the living ghost of the beauty Akogi appearing to a couple in the countryside.

The spirit grins happily as she steps through the tall grasses at left, while the fellow in the center regards her with a worried frown. The frightened beauty at right cowers next to a stream, throwing her arm up to shield herself from the apparition. A stone statue of a monk at right is topped with a battered straw hat, and the narrow stream winds it way back and forth across the design.

From left, the actors are Fujikawa Kayu III as the living ghost of Akogi, Ichkawa Danjuro VIII as Ashikaga Jiro no kimi, and Bando Shuka as Tasogare." (c)
